Headboard??

So I really want to get a headboard for my bed. What I really want is this:

However, since I am in job transitions I don't have the mulah to fork over for a beautiful white tufted headboard. I have two blank canvas' laying around and I am thinking I can paint something on those and put it behind my bed. I have a few ideas:

1. Have the background white and then paint shapes in black and grey.

2. Leave the canvas white and write a poem or song in black.

3. Paint them a bright color...like pea green or orange.

What are you're thoughts???
